Vienna in December

2015 was a great year with travel, having already visited Borneo, Kuala Lumpur and Bali, we went for a fabulous long weekend in Vienna to soak up the magic of the Christmas Markets. This was the moment when Phil and I decided to have a little friendly competition to see who had visited the most countries. Phil was convinced he would come out on top, but I had a sneaking suspicion that I would be the ultimate victor.

As we continued to get to know each other, I was quietly confident that Phil wouldn’t stand a chance against my well-traveled self. The stakes were set – if I won, Phil would have to buy me a Pandora bracelet. Needless to say, I didn’t waste any time thinking about what charm I would choose, as I was certain of my impending victory. And, as expected, Phil didn’t stand a chance.

A lovely memento from Vienna was on its way to me – a bracelet with its first charm, a musical note, marking the beginning of my travel bracelet collection. From then on, Phil made it a tradition to buy me a charm from each country we visited. We even went back to snag a Buddha charm to represent our time in Bali. Lesson learned: I can be quite the competitive spirit.

While in Vienna, we made sure to check off a few must-do experiences. We indulged in a musical and dance evening featuring the Viennese Waltz, marvelled at the dancing Lipizzaner Stallions at the Hofburg Palace, and enjoyed a leisurely cruise down the Danube River. We wandered for miles, taking in the breathtaking sights and architecture, and made sure to stop at a delightful coffee and cake shop for some well-deserved treats.

We strolled through the Christmas markets, warming ourselves with hot mulled wine and immersing ourselves in the festive spirit of December. What a fantastic way to kick off the holiday season!
