The grand finale of our Borneo adventure was a flight to Bali, where we planned to unwind for a luxurious seven nights before heading back to the UK. Our trusty car service arrived right on time to whisk us off to the airport for our connecting flight to Bali. Everything went off without a hitch, and upon landing in Bali, our driver and swanky ride were waiting to escort us to our hotel. Imagine our delight when we were informed that we had been upgraded to a suite with a separate dining room on the same floor for breakfast and complimentary snacks and drinks – thank you, Intercontinental hotel!

We had a jam-packed itinerary of sightseeing and beach bumming planned for our time in Bali. We had arranged for our driver and guide to show us around the island, and boy, did they deliver. We ventured into the rice fields, mingled with the locals, visited temples, towns, and monuments, and even stopped for a delicious local lunch along the way. Life is all about collecting experiences, and we were determined to make the most of our time in Bali.
Oh, and let’s not forget about visiting the coffee plantation and sampling the coffee made from beans that have been through the monsoon process. I wasn’t about to drink something that had been excreted by a mongoose or anyone else, no matter how well washed they were. Phil, on the other hand, couldn’t resist the opportunity to try this unique local drink.
One of the highlights of our trip was a dinner boat cruise around the harbour. We were hoping for a stunning sunset and a lively atmosphere, and boy, did we luck out. When we arrived, we were pleasantly surprised to find only three other couples on board, making it feel like a private, exclusive party. With live music, delicious food, and plenty of room to dance, it was a night to remember. Who knew Phil and I were such VIPs?
We dined at the charming fish restaurants lining the beach, marvelling at the skilled chefs at the hotel as they received the fresh catch of the day delivered by boat. We savoured exquisite cocktails while witnessing the breathtaking sunset and partaking in the lively beach parties. It was the perfect conclusion to an unforgettable expedition. Cheers to good food, good drinks, and good times!
